3 WAYS TO MAKE A STATEMENT POWDER ROOM

The powder room, in my opinion, is one of the best inventions in home design since, well, the roof.

They are convenient and keeps guests within the common areas. They are also a great opportunity for bold and courageous design choices.

When discussing powder room design ideas with my clients I encourage them to think of the most vivid, eye- catching design style that speaks to them.

Whether it’s an amazing boutique hotel, the interior of an eclectic restaurant, a scene from a television show or movie or a well-dressed man or woman, Inspiration can be drawn from anywhere. The best lesson I have learned from my career in architecture and interior design is that no matter what design style you choose, lean in 100 percent. A powder room can be bold and glamorous, eclectic bohemian or subtle with natural finishes.

Daring Wallpaper

Wallpaper has gotten a bad reputation over its century’s existence. It conjures images of stuffy Victorian homes filled with petticoats, fainting couches or eighties stripes and grape lined borders that are impossible to remove. Wallpaper has come a long way. Removable options mean It is no longer a lifelong commitment.

With so many new design options you can choose from Leopard print or Leopard print or leopard print.

When deciding on a wall treatment for my powder room makeover I was drawn to the bold tropical prints of the La Palma Collection by Catherine Martin from Mokum

Specialty Paint

When I moved into my townhouse, I wanted to make the powder room into a little jewel box. I was still absolutely in love with the color scheme from my previous home, so I brought into the new house. This Ralph Lauren Regent Metallic paint in the color “Great Hall” was the focal point of my old dining room and became the entirety of the new powder room
The application technique gave the walls a hammered metal appearance causing it to reflect the light like windblown ocean waves. It was a must for the powder room in my new house.

Wall Molding

Fast forward a few years, although the paint was still breathtaking, it was time for an update. My interior design style had evolved to a more subtle, sophistication and the powder room needed to reflect that change (Along with the rest of the house which I will reveal in future blogs. So, stay tuned!). Another issue was the paint being discontinued in store and difficult to purchase online, which made touchups nearly impossible.
I created this applied molding design to give the room a luxurious texture. Trim is a relatively inexpensive way to create a statement wall treatment. Its versatility can enhance any design style. From simple midcentury to ornate traditional, applied moldings are timeless.

My preference was to use a single color on the wall and molding, but contrasting and complementary colors can make a bold statement as well.
